From the Great Resignation to the Great Detachment: Combatting Employee Disengagement

The “Great Resignation” may have subsided, but a new challenge has emerged: the “Great Detachment.” Employees all across the country are feeling increasingly disengaged from their jobs. Declining employee productivity is becoming an increasingly prominent organizational problem, posing a threat to a company’s success.

Unlike the “Great Resignation,” many dissatisfied employees are now choosing to remain in their roles largely due to economic uncertainties.   3. Connect Employee Contributions to Organization Purpose. Finding purpose in one’s work provides intrinsic motivation. Provide opportunities for employees to understand how their work contributes to the overall big picture.
  4. Focus on Building a Strong Work Culture. Fostering a sense of belonging is crucial to employee engagement. Organize meaningful team-building activities, celebrate the team for achievements both in and outside of work, and show appreciation in ways most meaningful to employees.

The “Great Detachment” is driving employers to prioritize employee engagement and create a work culture where employees feel valued, connected, and inspired. By implementing these strategies, businesses retain their talent and cultivate a productive workforce.
