Looking for Employee Wellness Benefits? Try Standing!

By The Employer Group - Sep 19, 2022

By now we all know that a healthier life will lead to a happier, more appreciative, and more productive employee. There are several benefits that an employer can offer to create a healthy work environment, but there’s one benefit that continually has studies released about its positive effects: standing at work.

There is a host of medical research showing that sitting all day at work can be detrimental to employees’ health, including increased risks of heart disease and other cardiovascular problems, diabetes, and impaired cognitive ability. In fact, according to James Levine, an endocrinologist who is Director of Obesity Solutions for Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University, there are 34 chronic diseases linked to sedentary behavior. The American Heart Association released an article in 2017 in the journal Circulation indicating that Americans who sit six to eight hours a day on average may still suffer health risks even if they exercise regularly. Offering standing desks to your employees is a great way to help curb this problem and to show your employees that you care about their health and overall productivity – at work and at home.

Here at The Employer Group, each employee has a standing desk, and these – along with our other healthy work offerings – are a great investment in our staff. They help in reducing sick days, improving productivity and are tangible examples of our commitment to our team.

If you aren’t sold on the benefits of a standing desk or if they’re price-prohibitive, there are other options, such as risers for computers and monitor arms that allow employees to stand at their desks, or even standing meetings. Encourage your employees to change their sedentary behaviors at work and you’ll see a positive change in the employee’s health and productivity.
