Paid Sick Leave in Wisconsin

By The Employer Group - Nov 17, 2015

In late October and early November, the Wisconsin Legislature introduced two bills that would provide paid sick leave to Wisconsin employees.  Senate Bill 352 was introduced on October 29, 2015 and Assembly Bill 474 was introduced on November 3.  Both bills were referred to the appropriate committees, but there has been no “action” on either bill since that time.

Each of the bills’ language is virtually identical, providing for one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, subject to a maximum of 72 hours of accrued paid sick leave in a calendar year.  If the business employs less than ten employees, the maximum accrued amount would be reduced to 40 hours.   The bills also stipulate that accrued sick leave has no cash value upon an employee’s termination or resignation of employment.

Will these bills become law?  That remains to be seen.   The Employer Group will keep you posted with any updates!
